Foundation YMCA

WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA

Foundation YMCA of Wilson is the product of a public-private partnership developed with the City of Wilson to re-envision a downtown environment that encourages healthy living through mixed-use apartments, businesses, and restaurants with the YMCA as a central focus. The building construction was supported by a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson,  which also includes the Y-GIG after-school program for middle school students.

Design Dimension was selected to design and build the environmental branding which included: super graphics, privacy film, wayfinding signage, donor naming, and two donor walls. We worked with the YMCA branding team and architect team to identify spaces to activate – utilizing the Y brand and incorporating elements that represent Wilson’s unique and local flare.

Our design elements included dimensional donor naming, large wallpaper murals, wayfinding panels to direct visitors around the two-story building, and studio/donor naming. We incorporated specialty lighting for the annual donor wall, matching the shape of the architectural ceiling. Needless to say, we had so much fun with color, scale, shape, transparency and lighting!

“I work for the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina and recently saw some of your team's outstanding design work at the Foundation YMCA of Wilson. We loved how their child watch rooms turned out and incorporated elements from the community.
The designs were very creative but also on-brand for the Y, using rounded triangles and chevron shapes.
