Sumter, SC: Shrinking Time

April 21, 2017

The Sumter Opera House Clock Tower was installed over 120 years ago and has always been an iconic landmark of Sumter, SC.  The city of Sumter purchased the clock from the E. Howard Clock Company in 1984 for $1,000.  The clock, 100 feet in the air, was once powered by winding gears and weights.

DDI is currently working on an exhibit for the Opera House that discusses the history of the theater as well as the city.  Our Design Team had the privilege of visiting the top of the tower from inside the clock.  We enjoyed the experience so much that we wanted visitors to share the experience!

We’ve developed plans to put a scaled version of the clock tower in the new exhibit for Sumter Opera House, giving visitors a taste of the tower and it's significance.  Look at the images below to see what we have in store!
