United States Marine Corps - MARSOC
project type: fabrication , graphics , museums
MARSOC, the United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, occupies a new state-of-the-art facility on Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune near Jacksonville, North Carolina. Design Dimension was awarded the contract to design, produce and install a package of images and displays to help activate some of the hallways and common spaces of the building.
The final design consists of “colossal” fabric banners, several wallpaper murals, image displays, dimensional quotes and framed photos. The fabric banners hang overhead in the clerestory space above the entry to the Command offices. One banner replicates the Marine Corps Raider patch, which represents the first unit in the Marine Corps specifically designated to conduct special operations. The other includes an image of a lone operator with a quote from the President. Also in the Command area are many framed images of Marines in operational environments. In one hallway, large format wallpaper murals of Marines in various locales and environments activate wall spaces, with many well-known quotes about the Marines from various historical figures rendered in three-dimensional letters. Two additional displays about the work of the Intelligence Battalion feature images of Marines and quotes about the importance of their contribution to mission accomplishment.
