Time Warner Store

For years, Time Warner Cable has provided service to customers throughout central and eastern North Carolina. In an effort to increase awareness of expanded service offerings, the company decided to create a retail environment that would serve as a showcase for their customers. Wilmington, NC became the home of the first Time Warner Cable Store. Design Dimension was asked to join architects Michael Kersting and Greg Kot to help with the design and fabrication of interior lighting, kiosks, displays, graphics and fixtures for the store. The result is a truly unique retail experience.
The experience begins at the front door of the store as visitors enter from the mall entrance. The door, a wing shaped structure of aluminum ribs and perforated metal skin, features the store logo in dimensional letters. It serves not only as a front entry sign, but as a security door when the store is closed.
Upon entering the store, visitors are immersed in sight and sound. Overhead, a double deck halo of over sixty televisions display a wide selection of Time Warner’s cable channels while speaker cones above project the sound downward. In the center of the store, movable kiosks feature Time Warner specialty products such as On Demand movies and Digital Cable, and allow visitors to use the remote and try them out. A larger stationary kiosk nearby features Time Warner’s Internet service. Here, visitors can surf the web using the high-speed Road Runner service on one of twelve computers. Along the walls, monumental graphics represent different aspects of Time Warner’s product offerings, interspersed with panels featuring cable channel logos. Cutting through the images and stepping up and down as it encircles the room, an LED moving message board displays upcoming product specials and television listings while adding more life to the wall displays.
The overall success of the store will not only generate customer awareness, but also serve as a model for future store openings throughout Time Warner Cable’s service area.
