On Saturday, September 29, Marbles revealed their new name and opened their doors to over 10,000 visitors. Marbles is the result of a merger between two children’s museums in Raleigh: Playspace and Exploris.

In 2003 Mike Cindric and Susan Toplikar taught an exhibit design studio at NC State school of design. The students from this class worked on a design/build project that involved remodeling existing exhibits and establishing a cohesive color palette and graphic look for the space. The following semester, Marianne Prince continued the project in an independent study that involved redesigning and building components for the lobby. The results included skyscraper seating, interactive doors, and a multi-colored, hand stained floor. In the merger, the floor was taken up and installed in the new theater area, and the interactive bridge door was installed as an exhibit entry door.

We are thrilled to have played a valuable role in the success of Playspace, and to be continuing that relationship in the new success of Marbles.
